Gabriele Vulpitta, the Italian tennis player, defeated Jangjun Kim from South Korea to reach the quarter-finals of the 2023 Trofeo Bonfiglio. Despite the windy conditions at the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa on Thursday, Vulpitta managed to win the match with a backhand down the line after an hour and 53 minutes, with a score of 7-6 6-2. The 17-year-old from Taranto had some issues with his serve, resulting in nine double faults, but was able to overcome them and even saved a set point. Vulpitta will face Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, the number one seed in the tournament, in the quarter-finals on Friday.

However, it was not a good day for the two Italian female players competing in the round of 16 of the Junior Italian Open. Vittoria Paganetti lost to Clervie Ngounoue, the number two seed and fifth-ranked player in the world, with a score of 6-3 6-3 after an hour and 28 minutes. Federica Urgesi, on the other hand, lost to Ena Koike from Japan after a tough match lasting three hours and 21 minutes, with a score of 5-7 6-3 6-4.

Italian players had better luck in the doubles, with Noemi Basiletti and Gaia Maduzzi reaching the semi-finals after beating Milic/Slama 6-4 7-5.
